LONDON — The British Academy of Film and Television Arts unveiled the nominations for the 79th EE BAFTA Film Awards on Tuesday, with One Battle After Another leading the field with 14 nominations, followed closely by Sinners with 13, the academy confirmed. The nominations set the stage for the awards ceremony on February 22, 2026, at the Royal Festival Hall in London, with veteran actor Alan Cumming set to host the event.
One Battle After Another, a dark comedy-action film directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, received nods in major categories including Best Film, Best Director and multiple acting slots, with Leonardo DiCaprio and Chase Infiniti among its acting nominees. Sinners, a period vampire thriller by Ryan Coogler, earned recognition across categories including Best Film, Director and leading actor Michael B. Jordan, according to Reuters reporting.
British cinema fared strongly, with Hamnet and Marty Supreme each receiving 11 nominations. Hamnet, directed by Chloé Zhao, captured attention in both performance and storytelling categories, while Marty Supreme bolstered its awards season momentum with multiple major nominations. Other films with significant recognition included Frankenstein, Sentimental Value, and I Swear.
In the performance categories, nominees span a mix of established and emerging talent. Leading actor nods went to Robert Aramayo (I Swear), Timothée Chalamet (Marty Supreme), Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon), and others, while leading actress contenders include Jessie Buckley (Hamnet), Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You) and Emma Stone (Bugonia). Supporting categories likewise feature a broad slate of performers highlighted by BAFTA’s voting members.
The Outstanding British Film category blends indie and mainstream entries, with titles such as 28 Years Later, The Ballad of Wallis Island and Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy among those competing. The EE Rising Star Award, voted for by the public, features nominees including Archie Madekwe, Chase Infiniti and Miles Caton, as announced earlier in January.
BAFTA’s nomination announcements are a key moment in the international awards season, often aligning with critical frontrunners for the Academy Awards in Hollywood. The winners will be revealed during the ceremony in London on 22 February, with global broadcasts on BBC One, BBC iPlayer and other international partners.
